Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can my child bring their mobile phone to school?

We want learners to be able to learn and develop socially, without any distractions from mobile devices. This is why Brannel School has been 'phone-free' since 2023.

Mobile phones should not be seen or heard anywhere on the school site. This means that as soon as learners arrive at school, their phones must already be switched off or on silent and kept securely in their bags.

Phones must not be taken out or used at any point during the school day, for any reason. Learners may only use their phones once they have left the school site at the end of the school day.

This expectation reflects national guidance followed by schools across the country, helping us to maintain a calm, focused and safe learning environment, free from distraction.

When learners join our school, they are given a Yondr pouch. These phone-sized pouches have a strong magnetic lock which, once closed, cannot be opened again without a specially designed unlocking magnet.

The only exception to this policy is where a learner needs to use a mobile phone to monitor a medical condition.

What should my child do if they need help during the school day?

Learners are encouraged to speak to a member of staff if they need support or have any concerns during the school day. Our staff are here to help and ensure that everyone feels safe, supported and able to achieve their best.

Who should I contact if I have a question?

If you have any questions or need further information, please contact our school reception team, who will be happy to direct your enquiry to the appropriate member of staff.
