Pastoral care & support
Supporting the whole learner
At Brannel School, pastoral care is about supporting the whole learner – personally, socially and academically.
We recognise that every learner is different. While school can be an exciting and positive experience, growing up can also bring challenges. Social and emotional difficulties, changes at home, friendships and relationships can all affect a learner's wellbeing and their ability to engage with learning.
Our pastoral approach brings together the whole school community. Strong relationships between learners, teachers and other members of staff, alongside effective monitoring, targeted support and opportunities beyond the classroom, help us create an environment where learners feel known, supported and able to thrive.
Our Pastoral Team
Our Pastoral Team, led by Mr Lee Murray-Adams, Assistant Headteacher, is available to support learners when they need additional help.
Support is tailored to each learner and their individual circumstances. This can include:
-
One-to-one mentoring
-
Attendance support
-
Strategies and advice to help manage behaviour
-
Social and emotional support
-
Referrals to our School Counsellor
-
Emotional first aid and mental health support
-
Support and understanding around self-harm and suicide
-
Support with friendships and relationships
-
Referrals to external agencies and specialist provision
-
Support for learners and families during difficult times
Our aim is to identify concerns early, understand what is affecting a learner and work with them and their family to find the right support.
Working with Families
We know that parents and carers often notice changes in their child before anyone else.
If you feel that your child may be struggling, either in school or because of something happening at home, please get in touch with us.
You do not need to wait for a situation to become serious before contacting the school. Our Pastoral Team can listen, help you understand the support available and work with you to identify appropriate next steps.
