New Library Opening

Brannel officially opens the Kim Wherry Library.

Brannel School has proudly celebrated the official opening of the Kim Wherry Library, a welcoming new reading space named in honour of a much-loved former English teacher whose passion for literature inspired generations of young people.

The opening event brought together members of the school community, including representatives from St Stephen-in-Brannel Parish Council, former teachers, school leaders, staff and invited guests, all joining to mark this special occasion.

The library has been named after Kim Wherry in recognition of her dedication to education and her lasting impact on the lives of countless students during her time at Brannel School. Guests reflected on her commitment to encouraging a love of reading and learning, and the positive influence she had on both colleagues and learners.

The Kim Wherry Library has been created as a vibrant and welcoming space where learners can discover new books, develop their reading skills and enjoy reading for pleasure. It is expected to become a valuable resource at the heart of school life.

An important part of the library's future success will be the involvement of student librarians and reading ambassadors. These young volunteers will help manage the space, recommend books to their peers and champion reading throughout the school, encouraging more students to explore the enjoyment and benefits that reading can bring.

Headteacher, Mr Muller-Forster said: "The opening of the Kim Wherry Library is a wonderful moment for our school community. It is a fitting tribute to a teacher who inspired so many people through her love of English and reading. We hope this library will inspire future generations of students and become a place where a lifelong love of books can grow."

The event concluded with guests exploring the new library, sharing memories of Kim Wherry and celebrating the opportunities the new facility will provide for students for many years to come. The Kim Wherry Library stands as both a tribute to a respected educator and an exciting investment in the future, ensuring that reading remains at the heart of the Brannel School experience.
