At Brannel School we are committed to ensuring that our learners and staff are protected from abuse and harm. At Brannel it is everyone's responsibility to ensure our learners are safeguarded from harm. Safeguarding is defined as:
- protecting children from maltreatment
- preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
- ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
We have a culture of safeguarding that supports effective arrangements to:
- identify learners who may need early help or who are at risk of neglect, abuse, grooming or exploitation
- help learners reduce their risk of harm by securing the support they need, or referring in a timely way to those who have the expertise to help
- manage safe recruitment and allegations about adults who may be a risk to learners
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will always ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with their parents/carers first, unless there is reason to believe that this is not in the student’s best interests.
Our Safeguarding Team
If you have a concern about a child, particularly if you think the child may be suffering or at risk of suffering harm, it is your responsibility to share the information promptly with our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead or, in their absence, a member of our safeguarding team:
Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Assistant Headteacher
Mr John Doherty
