Business and Enterprise

This course builds upon what the students have learnt at Key Stage 3 in Maths, English, ICT, Art and Design Technology. This subject links all elements of the National Curriculum in a business and real life environment.

All students work with real people from the world of business, linking with local and national businesses that enable students to develop their portfolios. The course covers topics like: owning a business, developing a business, human resources, finance, marketing, sales customer service, use of ICT and business communications, economic conditions, environmental issues, rights and responsibilities of employers, job applications and staff development.

This course provides many opportunities to use ICT, including marketing, desk top publishing and spreadsheets.

There are two units of work: Unit 1 – Investigate How Businesses Work 50% of total mark. Exam (1.5 hours) Unit 2 – Financial Records 50% of total mark. (20 hours research and 12 hours writing up)
